Get Involved

Much of the assistance The Arc of Baltimore provides to individuals and families is dependent completely on charitable contributions, membership, and other involvement by the community. Following are examples of what your gifts allow:

· Bay Buddies – A camp for kids with developmental disabilities that combines summer fun and a continuum of education. Allows parents to stay at work during summer break.

· Eviction prevention – Families in crisis can include children with disabilities requiring constant care. Helping families stay in their homes can be critical.

· Special therapies – Learning to walk or adapt to physical disabilities can require special therapies not always covered by insurance or Medicaid. Sometimes, a treatment like Hippotherapy that involves sitting astride a walking horse can help develop muscles and balance like nothing else.

· Adaptive communications technology – The purchase of specialized computers can open a new world of expression for individuals who are non-verbal. Such equipment is beyond the means of many and a luxury unimagined.

· Wheelchair ramps – While small children are easily carried in and out of ahome or up and down the stairs, it becomes less manageable as they grow and ramps and lifts are essential for the care and daily living of kids and adults.

· Art instruction – Art instructors from local colleges offer classes at Arc day programs that allow creativity to flourish or frustration to express itself – or even begin a process of skill building toward employment.

· Dental care – Proper dental care and treatment are often not possible for individuals reliant on Medicaid so problems with teeth and gums can go untreated without financial assistance from The Arc.
